The number of lions continues to decline in the wild, so August 10th is a time to think about ways to preserve these magnificent animals. SPIRAL partner, Qiang Zhuo (known as Simba), has dedicated his life to protecting African lions as Chief Scientist of the Nature Guardian Wildlife Conservation Center of Kenya. He works with the local Maasai tribal community to create wildlife protection areas. Simba has also worked to reduce poaching and conflicts between humans and wildlife. SPIRAL is working with Simba to develop wildlife conservation-related education programs, including future student service learning trips to Masaai Mara in Kenya for schools.
