For the first time, SPIRAL International will join over 500 middle level educators at the 36th annual conference of the New England League Middle Schools (NELMS) in Rhode Island at the end of March (visit conference webpage).
SPIRAL will have a booth at the conference in order to promote our most popular programs:
- Long-term study in the U.S. for Chinese high school students (allowing students to attend school in the U.S. for anywhere from 1 semester to three years while living with a local host family);
- SPIRAL’s dual-diploma program (making it possible for tuition-paying international students to receive a diploma from a Vermont public high school);
- SPIRAL’s summer adventure learning camps (where schools in VT, NH and CT host 2-week summer camps for groups of Chinese middle/high school students along with local U.S. students).
Numerous conference sessions have been planned, covering a variety of education-related topics, including a session led by Dr. Judy DeLeeuw, principal of East Lyme Middle School in CT. Dr. DeLeeuw will speak about the importance of international education and exchange, based on her trip to China last fall which was planned and organized entirely by SPIRAL. Dr. DeLeeuw led a group of 15 middle school students along with 6 parents and teachers on an 8-day tour of China, starting with 2 days in Beijing and visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden Palace, and Tiananmen Square. The group then travelled south to Guangzhou to spend 4 days at Xiang Jiang Middle School, the Chinese sister school of East Lyme Middle School (for more details about the trip, click here).
